What Can You Do With Funeral Flowers After the Service?

What Can You Do With Funeral Flowers After the Service?

Funeral flowers can be preserved as memorial keepsakes, giving your family a way to keep the blooms connected to someone you love. At DBANDREA®, we can work with a single rose, a casket spray, or a sympathy arrangement, including creating several pieces from one arrangement for different family members.

Why preserve flowers from a funeral?

After a funeral, you may find yourself deciding what to keep from a day that was difficult to get through. The flowers might be something you want to hold onto, even if you have not thought about what to do with them yet.

Preservation gives those flowers a place beyond the service. A finished piece can sit beside a photograph, become artwork for your wall, or bring a small reminder of your loved one into a room you use every day.

The meaning comes from the flowers themselves. They were part of a tribute, given by someone who cared, or chosen to honor a person’s life. Keeping them can be a personal way to carry that connection into your home.

At DBANDREA, we help families explore what that could look like without expecting them to arrive with every decision made.

What can a casket spray or sympathy arrangement become?

A large funeral arrangement does not have to become one large preservation. Individual flowers can be selected for smaller pieces, and flowers from the same arrangement can be used across several keepsakes.

One family member may want a pressed floral design, while another may prefer flowers preserved in a resin piece. The starting point is what each person wants to keep and where they imagine displaying it.

If you are interested in a small piece, you can select the flowers that mean the most to you. If several family members want keepsakes, our team recommends sending the full arrangement so we can select suitable flowers for the different pieces.

That allows one floral tribute to become something each family member can keep in their own home. We can guide the selections together, helping you understand which options suit the flowers you send.

How soon should you send funeral flowers for preservation?

Ideally, your flowers should reach our team within three to five days while they are still fresh. Their condition at arrival gives us the starting point for preservation.

Until then, keep them hydrated. If an arrangement is in floral foam, make sure the foam has enough water to supply the flowers throughout the arrangement.

You can review our shipping instructions as you prepare to send them. Families near our studio in Rowlett, just east of Dallas, can also contact us about dropping flowers off.

If the flowers are already older than five days, please reach out rather than assuming the opportunity has passed. We also work with air-dried flowers, including flowers families have kept for weeks or years. Our team can explain the options based on what you have.

Do you need to choose your keepsake before sending the flowers?

You do not need to decide every design detail before getting your flowers to us. A $49 reservation deposit books our services, allowing you to begin while our team helps you work through your selections.

Once the flowers arrive, we will contact you or your family to discuss which pieces you would like. That conversation helps connect your preferences with how the flowers can be preserved.

The final design comes later. Flower placement, background, mat, and frame colors are discussed during a one-on-one consultation with our flower concierge after the flowers come out of the initial preservation stage, typically between two and three months.

That is the design consultation stage, rather than the completion date for your finished piece. It gives you a separate conversation to consider how you want the keepsake to look.

Can you include a photograph, rosary, or prayer?

A memorial piece can sometimes include another detail connected to your loved one, such as a photograph, prayer, rosary, or cross. The item’s size and the type of preservation determine what can be incorporated.

For pressed pieces, mementos should be no more than one-quarter inch thick. Resin pieces can offer more room, with pieces typically up to three inches thick.

If there is something you would like to include, mention it when speaking with our team. We can help you understand which options can accommodate it before you settle on a piece.

How do you find a design that feels personal?

Start with real examples of preserved flowers. Seeing finished work can help you picture whether you want a framed design or a resin piece, and whether you prefer a clear or contrasting background.

Our flower preservation gallery lets you explore previous work by details such as flower, color, frame, and mat. Our team can also share examples similar to your flowers and preferences.

We have been preserving flowers since 2016 and serve families across all 50 states. You can visit our Dallas-area studio to see pieces in person, or speak with us by FaceTime if you are farther away.

Your flowers will look different after preservation. Our team works on restoring their shapes and hand painting their color to bring their appearance closer to how they looked when fresh, with an average of about 30 hours spent working on your pieces.
